2026 NEW LEBANON COUNCIL VACANCIES
NOTICE OF VACANCY ON VILLAGE COUNCIL
Notice is hereby given that a vacancy exists on the Council of the Village of New Lebanon, Ohio, as a result of Theresa Cooper's assumption of the office of Mayor.
Pursuant to Section 2.08 of the Charter of the Municipality of New Lebanon, vacancies on Council shall be filled by appointment of a qualified person by majority vote of the remaining Council members within thirty (30) days of the occurrence of the vacancy. The person appointed shall serve in accordance with Sections 2.08 and 7.07 of the Charter.
Pursuant to Section 30.04 of the Codified Ordinances of the Village of New Lebanon, any qualified elector of the Municipality interested in being considered for appointment to the Council vacancy shall notify the Clerk of Council in writing of his or her interest in filling the vacancy no later than September 11, 2026.
Qualified applicants must:
1. Be a qualified elector of the Municipality;
2. Have been, prior to consideration for appointment, a continuous resident of the Municipality or any territory annexed thereto for one (1) year;
3. Be in good standing on all New Lebanon municipal income taxes; and
4. Not be an employee of the Municipality.
Following the application deadline, the Clerk of Council will notify all applicants in writing of the date, time, and place of a special meeting of Council to interview the applicants. The special meeting will be conducted in accordance with Section 30.04 of the Codified Ordinances and will include candidate introductions, opening statements, questions from Council, questions from the public, and candidate closing remarks.
Council shall select a qualified person to fill the vacancy by roll call vote at the following regular Council meeting, in accordance with Section 30.04 of the Codified Ordinances and Section 2.08 of the Charter. The person selected shall thereafter take the oath of office and assume the position on Council.
The special meeting will be on September 14, 2026 for council to interview the applicants.
The regular meeting on September 15, 2026 council shall select a qualified person to fill the vacancy.
